I offer professional editing, proofreading, localisation and translation. These services sometimes overlap, so here is a brief outline of what is involved:
Proofreading
This is a final check to make sure the document is as good as it can be. Minor errors can be hugely off-putting to readers and may prevent people from engaging with writing that you have worked hard on. As a proofreader, I check the final document for typos, grammatical errors, typesetting issues and consistency, as well as anything you want me to look out for. This can be particularly useful when a document has been authored by several different people, all of whom may make slightly different choices when it comes to grammar and style – but errors can be introduced at any stage of working on a document, and are often surprisingly hard to spot.

Localisation
You need to ensure that a document has local relevance – particularly if it was written by someone who is not resident in the country in which the document is published.
Editing
You have a draft of a document and you would like someone to go through and rework it, sometimes extensively, to ensure that it communicates your message as clearly and attractively as possible. There are various forms of editing: copyediting aims to make your words really sing, whereas substantial editing or rewriting (also known as developmental editing) refers to more substantial rewrites, often focusing on big picture elements such as the shape and structure of the text or story. If you’re not sure which category your project falls into, you’re welcome to ask me.

Translation
You have a document written in Swedish, Danish or Norwegian and you would like it translated into high-quality English.
Case Studies
Eleni Kyriacou, author
“Liz is an integral part of my longstanding writing group and has helped me enormously with my two novels. She has read early work, suggested thoughts on plot and character and been invaluable when discussing the intricacies of a story. She’s also excellent at spotting errors, questioning grammar and is a highly accomplished editor/ proof reader. She is straightforward and clear with her thoughts and advice, yet always manages to give feedback with care and consideration. I doubt I would attempt to get any writing of a serious length published without asking her for her input.”
Text for a series of concerts
“I’m very impressed with the way you come up with idiomatic and creative solutions while matching tone of voice and content of the source, as well as with the level of research that has obviously been done.” – response from the client.
